I had a not-at-fault accident a few months ago and needed progressive to settle my repair for me with the other insurance company and body shop. Progressive response time was fast, agent was polite, I had no complaints about the customer service, etc. But here comes the nightmare: Theres a body shop in town that I wanted to use. However, my agent persuaded me to use one of their “networked partners” in town. He told me that their partners do excellent jobs and the whole repair process will be “THAT MUCH” easier so I figured sure why not. (I just heard from a friend today that insurance companies are not allowed to persuade or even hint their clients to use their networked service… so beware!). Knowing that this networked partner is actually affiliated with a local BMW dealer, I thought I would be fine in their hands. But that was when the nightmare began:
1. I was told that parts would come in within a week. But it took 2 weeks.
2. I was told that repair will take another week after the parts came in, but instead it took almost a month.
3. I had to leave for home over Christmas break and I had to leave my car at the dealer/body shop over the break. They assured me that my car would be fine. When I came back from vacation, this is what happened to my car:
a) beverage stain all over (i know exactly which ones are caused by myself and which ones are not)
b) shoe prints on the dash and gear
c) pen marks on the dash
d) some wrong parts were used
e) some parts were not installed correctly. I am not an expert in auto repair, but I could tell right away it was a mess: Weather strips on the window were not molded to the shape of the window, and it was so obvious since my weather strips are silver in color. Door was not installed properly, windows were not sealed and I could hear wind noise while driving.
I complained to the body shop personnel and they even tried to argue with me that it wasnt their fault (i will write another review on this body shop). Then I complained to my insurance agent at that time. He did fight for me with the body shop to get the repair re-done. 2nd time round was better, but still it was quite a mess. Sent it back, and 3rd time it was closer to “before damage” altho it could still be better.
I thank my progressive agent for fighting for me to get this done, but from what i heard, it is not legal/allowable for insurance agents to do that (please correct me if i am wrong). Also I truly believe they should know the quality of work of their “networked partners” especially if they have an agent who is stationed in that shop. While the bad repair is not the fault of the progressive agent, I think progressive/the agent should take some responsibilities of this bad experience.
