Decided to check out Geico to see what kind of quote I could get. Since I already had Progressive, I wasn’t too optomistic that Geico could beat their rates. To my surprise, they quoted me a rate on their site that was roughly $400 cheaper for a 6-month policy! This was with 2 cars and 2 drivers. So naturally I told them to go ahead and start my policy. I gave them my credit card number and authorized the charge. I got an email about 2 mins later welcoming me to Geico!
Then…..about 30 minutes later I got another email from Geico. Seems I had a speeding ticket 4 years ago that I had forgotten about. And the other driver on my policy had an accident 5 years ago that she had forgotten about as well(a not-at-fault one). As a result, my NEW rate was now $1700, up from $900. I was given a number to call if I didn’t want to accept this new rate, and cancel my account.
Of course I called this number to cancel the account. However I was then informed that even tho I had only authorized the charge on my account 30 mins earlier, that Geico couldnt credit the downpayment BACK to my credit card for 7-10 days!!!!!!!! And finally 3 weeks later, I got my downpayment back, but Geico got to draw interest off my money for 3 weeks.
