I was initially happy with Electric Insurance- they gave me a great quote online, and signing up and purchasing the policy was simple. Then, within a couple months of signing up, they found at least 3 reasons to raise my rates- a little each time, but it added up. The first was that they had given me a security discount because I had indicated that my car has a passive ignition cutoff. When they sent me a policy, they sent a form wanting some sort of certificate from an alarm company proving that this security device was in the car. Well, the ignition cutoff comes standard with my car, pre-installed, and I didn’t have any proof that it was in there (aside from the fact that Electric Insurance should be able to verify that it comes pre-installed on my model of car). So they removed that discount from the policy.
Then they decided that my car actually has a slightly faster engine than they originally accounted for when they gave me my quote. My rates went up again.
Then I know there was a third reason that they raised my rates again, though I honestly can’t even remember why now. Anyway, I cancelled my policy and switched to Geico.
I am only one opinion, and perhaps my experience with Electric Insurance was not typical. But what it looks like to me is that they quote you a really low rate to hook you in, then quickly start raising their rates to the point where they’re just not that competitive anymore.
