I WILL NEVER BE WITH ANOTHER COMPANY - Allstate - Auto My parents have been with Allstate before I was ever born and I joined them at the age of 16 when I got my first c...

After completing my graduate studies in May 1997 I decided to buy a car. Though I had no intention to buy one right away the suave Nissan salesman ended up selling me a 1997 Nissan Maxima SE within a couple of hours. I was in the showroom at 8 pm and out by 10 pm with my brand new car, which by the way was also my dream car.

Well, now that I had my car I needed insurance. To be honest I didn’t know much about buying auto insurance. I landed up at this supposedly friendly AllState agent close to my place. The agent sure was friendly and courteous but the quote she gave me came more as a sticker shock. I swear I didn’t get that while I bought my Maxima. Here I was desperate to get auto insurance since my dealer was pressuring me into getting one soon since he said that I could drive my new car using the dealer insurance only for the first couple of days.

Desperate, I went ahead and bought an AllState policy for an exorbitant price. The monthly insurance premium was working out to almost half that of my car payment. The economics was driving me up the wall. In a couple of months time I decided to change my insurance carrier since I could no longer afford to pay through my nose for this AllState policy.

When I changed my carrier I informed the AllState agent that I was doing so and also forwarded a copy of my new policy to her. In spite of that she went ahead and reported my dropping insurance (with them) to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Subsequently, I received a letter from the DMV that I needed to show proof of continual insurance else they would cancel my vehicle registration. I was shocked to receive this since I had already sent proof of my new policy to AllState.

So, if at all AllState had to report my dropping insurance to the DMV couldn’t they also send them a copy of my new insurance that I had sent them. I was very disappointed with AllState that they had very eagerly agreed to fleece me initially and were now stabbing me in my back. After that incident I swore I would never ever buy anything from AllState. It sure was a bitter experience.
