I grew up w/ my folks having Farmers Insurance and so of course that was the first insurance I had when i was of age to drive and then have my own car. I continued carrying Farmers Insurance for many years…basically because I didnt know back in my young days that I could change. But at that time I had no complaints either.
When I moved to Tennessee in 1985 there was no Farmers Insurance here and so chose another agency and stayed with them for many years. I was semi satisfied w/ Insurance X…but it never felt like home to me. I was just used to the security of having Farmers Insurance though had no clue what my deductibles were or my limits were….mainly because I had no need to use my insurance.
I guess it was summer of 1995 when I bought my new home that I got the shock of my life from Insurance X and the rate they wanted to quote me for household insurance. No thanks I called them and starting seeking alternative insurance. So to the yellow pages I went and low and behold the name Farmers Insurance Group was right there in black and white. I contacted them immediately about coverage for my car and also for my home. The rate and the coverage was unbelievable…..so low I felt that they had to have made mistake on the quote. But the agent printed me out a copy of the limits and coverage and rate…and there it was in black and white!
Needless to say I signed on the dotted line immediately.
I was impressed w/ the agent from Farmers…..knowledgable, courteous and willing to advise and assist in any way necessary to get the policy going and the info to the right places for my home. I had not ever bought a home on my own before so was clueless on who and what processes were necessary for insuring things like my home. My agent asnwered any questions and provided me guidance on things about making the move and sale on the home that i had not considered …in turn this saved me hundreds of dollars.
I know you save money on multiple policies…but the rate for just car insurance was very good even before we calculated the rate for adding the house. That rate was even better when the discount was added. My agent made sure I received every discount possible.
Did I ever have to file a claim w/ the insurance company? Yep….and was it embaressing to tell them why! I backed out of a parking lot and kissed a telephone pole…..and damaged the drivers door to the tune of over a thousand dollars. When I called my agent his assistance and advise was prompt and concerned and understanding. He told me to get three estimates at the body shops of my choice and then to bring or fax them to his office. Well I did and sent them to him ASAP…and the check was sent to me for the repairs in just a few days after that. I was impressed w/ the turn around time of the check and that I could pick the body shop to have the repairs made. Now that isnt to be said that the check was made out to just me…..it also was made out to the body shop. I didnt have any problem w/ that in the least. I later received a follow up call from the regional office to see if the repairs to the car met my satisfaction. Did my insurance go up w/ the "wreck"? Yes a bit…but just a few dollars a month….could have been much worse for my quick kiss of the pole! And yes it went on my record w/ them as an accident….so lost that discount. But aht was my fault…not theirs.
Then I had to contact them this past summer when my dtr turned 16……oh my gosh!!! I held my breath as I waited for the new quote adding her to my car coverage. And it shot it up more than my accident…..but still better than I expected. The agent was also very nice and gave me "what if" quotes for a car for my daughter..based on the type of cars I was thinking of getting her…and it was basically a $85 month increase…YIKES!! Well when I finally bought her the 92 Mazda MX3…I thought we were gonna pay more in a premium increase than the car payment……but when the final count was done and the quote give me. The total rate increase was $10 a month due to the multiple car discount that was added. Good thing I had promised to carry the car insurance if she made the payment!!!!!!!
When i made the move across the state in late summer….my agent was very helpful in finding an agent in my new home area and did all the leg work to contact him and get the change made. When I called the new agent upon my arrival in town….he had all the info and I had nothing to do except note his name and phone number. All in all my relationship w/ Farmers Insurance has been a long and friendly and happy one…and I recommend this insurance for anyone who is in need of coverage.
