First off, I should mention that I work for Geico as a customer service agent. I also am a customer of Geico and have been for 3 yrs. I switched to Geico after dealing with Drivers Direct and Farmers. DD(Drivers direct) had the cheapest rates around but with that quickly changed after I found out that the phone rep(not a licensed agent)applied discounts that I couldn’t get. I never rec’d a phone call or anything, just a prem change. Geico agents are required to call you back within 48hrs if the agent made an error.

I have looked elsewhere for insurance but have either been overpriced(easy to do after being with a company for a few years and a good driving record)or no one ever called me back. I called Farm Bureau 4 times. 2 times the agent(only one in the office I guess)was on vacation and therefore I had to call back later, the third time they said they had a customer in the office and would return my phone call in a few minutes. I waited for a week(good thing I wasn’t on hold)so I called back. Then I was told reluctantly that since I worked for Geico I was probably getting a better price. Maybe an honest opinion, but I wanted an honest quote. I never rec’d a price. I have also called Progressive(agents were super nice even though the price was high), AIG(credit affected my prem), Hartford(too young) and finally St Farm. St Farm had almost the same price as Geico’s but didn’t offer towing.

I have had some annoying problems with Geico(I’ll be honest) with my option forms. I had to request them 3 times(we cannot service our own policies) before they finally were sent out. I also had a problem with the automatic payment option not being consistent. The rep didn’t know why a payment processed when it shouldn’t have and didn’t offer to return the money either. But I will assure you that I do whatever possible to help you out the first time.

Our goals are to look for discounts available, look for easier payment options, ensure we do it right the first time even though you may have to wait on hold, to conform to the guidelines of your state(I have 23 licenses for different states)and to process as quick as possible. My average call is generally 3 1/2 minutes including holds. This beats my visit with Farm B. for my renters insurance that took almost 2hrs.
