In Good Hands? - Allstate - Auto Allstate advertises that you will be in good hands. That's about as far from the truth as possible. If you have ...
I initially purchased Allstate insurance for my automobile because they offered me a "multi-policy discount" due to the fact that I had selected them for my homeowner’s insurance. I’d been with another car insurance company that I was ambivalent about, and seeing as how they were offering me the same coverage at a lower rate, I figured "why not?"
Now, I think it should be noted here that your insurance company is represented by your insurance agent - and if your agent isn’t any good, it’s my contention that you’re going to have nothing but problems with the company. The other thing that should be noted here is that total honesty on the consumer’s part generally will be met with ethical practices by the company.
When my teenage daughter got her permit, I added her to the automobile insurance policy, something very few people either think to do, or are willing to do. Yes, my premium went up, but that extra bit of money bought me peace of mind in the event something should happen.
So, as is not unusual in a household with a young driver, three years after my daughter got her license, she was involved in an accident. The weather was horrible - snowing, slippery roads, etc. Probably because she was going to fast for conditions, she was unable to stop at a stop sign, and slid out into the road, where she was struck by a full sized van which was loaded down with heavy tools. This initial impact literally crushed the left front section of the car, and spun the car around into the path of another oncoming car, where she was struck again in the rear.
Once the car had been loaded onto a tow truck and towed to the local dealer, it was just after 5:00 PM. I called my agent’s office, just on the off chance he might still be there, and he was. I was given a claim number, and within 20 minutes received a telephone call from the claims office. The first words out of the claims adjuster’s mouth were "Is your daughter okay?" An inspector was assigned to my claim, and I hunkered down for a long and bumpy ride.
The very next morning, the inspector showed up at the dealer’s body shop, and went over the car with the shop manager. He approved, right there on the spot, a little over $3,000 worth of work to the car, qualifying his estimate with the statement that there was likely other damage that could not be ascertained on visual inspection. He left the door open for more repairs, should they be necessary. To make a long story short, $5,800 was issued to repair that car (it should be noted that the book value of the car was $8,000), and, per the advice of the dealer, only insisted on used parts for a wheel and the windshield. Today, 2 years later, the car runs like a top, and we’ve never had any trouble with it.
Now here’s the part that I found incredible - the next renewal period, I was pleasantly surprised to find that my premiums did not increase one cent. The insurance company was the only real bright spot in that entire nightmare.
I found the local claims adjuster that was assigned to my case to be friendly, compassionate, professional and unwavering in her support. I think that this experience should be the rule, not the exception as it seems to be.
I would recommend Allstate automobile insurance to my friends - and have done so. Now the homeowner’s policy is a whole ‘nother thing….
