I recently switched to GEICO Direct and began saving more than 30% on my car insurance. The source of the savings is that GEICO Direct does not require you to be 25 years old before you qualify for the discount rates offered to older drivers with good track records. Most other car insurance companies (specifically State Farm Insurance, my old carrier) penalize those under 25 for being part of a high-risk group. I don’t blame them for trying to minimize their risk on us younger drivers, but I’m glad that GEICO offers a cheap alternative for good drivers.
I don’t yet have any experience with filing claims with GEICO, but I can say that the customer service representative was friendly, smart, and quick — I signed up for the policy in about 10 minutes. He also was very forthcoming in telling me the exact price differences for the different level of services — he actually recommended that I purchase a slightly less expensive policy than I was originally considering.
