Let me start this by telling you a little story. My boyfriend had his auto insurance through Prudential and paid his premiums like everybody else. He also trusted that when and if he needed them to come through, they would be there and be reliable. WRONG. First off, when I went to pay my auto insurance premium with State Farm, we had them quote him on insurance. They came up with better insurance and a premium that was HALF what he was paying prudential.
He didn’t sign up yet because we were trading his car in that day for a new car. On the way to trade it in, we got into an accident. He called Prudential and they said everything would be taken care of and they would call him the next day with more info. Well it took them over two weeks just to get an adjuster out to where his car was towed. In the meantime he had no car to get back and forth to work in.
Finally, after about 7 or 8 phone calls and almost 3 weeks, they decided it was totaled. Then took them a few days to send the check so he could pay off his car and do whatever with the money left over. Once he got the check, instead of sending two checks (one made out to the bank and one to him) they sent one big one made out to the bank and him. Which is a hassle in its own right because both signatures need to be on it. So he had to sign it, send it to the bank, bank signs it and cashes it and sends him the leftover. Which could take up to 2 weeks. Which, realizing now that in most cases the scenario of one check sent is normal, they were probably in the right there.
It doesn’t stop there though. Prudential neglected to sign the check. So, it is now December 7 and the accident happened mid October and still he is waiting on his money. I know this story was long, but I hope this helps someone. They promise they are great. At least to on person they made promises that they could not keep.
So in my opinion, the customer service people were nice enough but they didn’t get the job done any faster. Plus the insurance was overpriced. Maybe what happened to my boyfriend won’t happen to you. My advice is to at least shop around for the best car insurance quote first. Read other peoples opinions and make your own judgement from there.
