My parents began their policy with Allstate about 20 years ago. They have always paid their auto and house bills on time.
Not once in the past did they have a car accident to where they needed to assistance of their ’so called’ insurance company.
About a month ago, my mom and dad were out garage sale-ing, they were coming west out of a housing addition to where they had just visited a sale. They were stopped at a stop sign waiting for 2 cars to pass so they could pull out. One was coming north and the other was heading south at the road in front of them. The lady going south suddenly turned into the housing addition right in front of the lady going north. Both cars collided and smashed into my parents car.
Luckily, all were unhurt, with the exception that my father had burns on his arms from the air bag and my mother hit her head.
After finding out that the air bag by itself on the car was going to cost 1,800 dollars to replace let alone all the damage to the vehicle. The insurance company totaled the car because they said that the value of the car was not worth the repair. Keep in mind that this is a little Dodge Shadow. Not an awesome car but it ran great and got them where they needed to go.
Now, the wonderful news. Allstate has decided that they are not going to pay for this car, any of the damage or ANY injury resulting from it.
The company claimed that because it was the other drivers’ faults that they would not be responsible, nor would they even consider taking any part of the claim.
They also told my parents that it was their responsibility (my mom and dads) to get with the ladies insurance companies and try to get the claim from them and if they did not want to pay for it, there was nothing that they could do. They will not even investigate for them.
Allstate did nothing but leave my parents to fend for themselves in this case. Never having been in an accident, never receiving any tickets or points and paying out so much money over the past 20 years. You would think that it would only take a small portion of that money to cover a 1995 Dodge Shadow! ((They have full coverage and collision.))
Now my parents are without a vehicle and are driving my sister’s mini-van (which is a hunk of junk!)
It isn’t fair that Allstate did this to them.
Needless to say, they have hired an attorney and are going to fight them. I hope they get something out of it, they deserve it!
My parents have since changed insurance companies and are going to be very cautious who they deal with in the future. This is ONLY my opinion and the circumstances of the accident involving my parents, not intended to be ’sour grapes.’
