I had thoughts about switching insurance companies when I found out I could save a few dollars by going with 21st Century. Recent events have put those thoughts way out of my mind. I have found that their hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 8:15am to 5:00pm and Fridays from 8:15am to 1:15pm. That doesn’t mean that the representative handling the account or claim will be available during those times. In fact, he or she will probably be there even less of the time.

About a month ago, I was hit by one of their clients. I called to get the status of the claim and was given the voice mail for the representative handling it. That was fine; I left a message. Three messages later, I still had not heard from her. I listened to her voice mail greeting and learned that she was there only to 4:00pm Monday through Thursday and to 12:00pm on Fridays. That’s not too bad, as long as she can get the work done. I don’t think she can. I called in the mornings, the middle of the day, and afternoons. After leaving several messages, I finally received a form in the mail. To this day, I have not spoken to her yet.

The form had listed the date of the accident as one day prior to the actual accident. I corrected it, filled in the necessary information and sent it in. That was almost three weeks ago. I called to make sure they had received the form and corrected the date. They hadn’t. Actually, they did receive the form; they just never corrected their information. Last week, I requested that the claim be handled by another agent. That was not going to happen. I ended up leaving a message for her supervisor. I’m still waiting for a call back from him. I won’t hold my breath.

The other problem I have with 21st Century is the company’s lack of phone etiquette. One person answered the phone and I had asked that I talk to someone else besides this one agent because all I got was her voice mail. And what did that person do? You guessed it, she transferred me to that very agent’s voice mail. I called again, getting someone else. Do you think that mattered? Of course not. Eventually I did get transferred to someone else’s voice mail. Whoopee!

It’s probably because they know that they will have to pay on this claim that they are seemingly avoiding me. Nevertheless, I can’t help but feel that there aren’t any real agents there, only receptionists.

I did receive something in the mail from them the other day; only it wasn’t regarding the claim. It was information on how I could save money by switching today and that I should call now for a quote. I DON’T THINK SO!!!!!!
