My monthly payments are now HALF of what they were using another, "stately" insurance carrier. Need I say more? - I do, but only to explain.
New Jersey Manufacturers is one of the good things about moving to New Jersey (and there are several others - New Jersey really gets an undeserved bad rep). Besides saving me a ton of cash - I’m completely serious about the half business, I have always found their customer service people to be 1)Nice, 2)Helpful and 3)There.
I had several questions when I was considering changing insurance carriers and they were much more helpful and honest than the insurance company I’d had for years. I’ve called NJM on several other occasions since then and they have always taken the time to help me out.
We heard about New Jersey Manufacturers through one of my husband’s new work friends. A great tip and worth the investigation.
A couple of problems which are minor in comparison to the great savings. First, you have to fill out a lengthy form making all kinds of decisions on your own - will you have your medical insurance cover your car accidents or your car insurance, how much liability will you want for each accident, how much will you cover for each uninsured motorist, do you want personal injury protection…?
These are all your basic insurance questions, but there is no one across the desk from you to answer your questions. Or, for that matter, fill out the form for you… I always find tasks like this daunting and am plagued by insecurities that I’m making the wrong decisions. I do this at tax time, too.
But, all you have to do is call. They helped me over the phone with all my questions - and didn’t make me feel like a moron, either.
Related to this first problem of a lengthy form is having to compile all the information and photocopying your ids and making sure you send them all the right stuff. This requires a lot of double and triple checking the form. I guess my main complaint is that the form is unclear about what they need back. A checklist would be helpful.
The second problem is you have to be a really, really good driver to get the simple New Jersey Manufacturer’s Insurance. My husband had a speeding ticket within the last 2 years. One speeding ticket for 7 miles an hour over the limit and because of that we could only qualify for the New Jersey Re-Insurance. They are a subsidiary of New Jersey Manufacturers, but don’t offer the best rates as NJM proper.
I can’t wait to see how our insurance will be next year when we qualify for New Jersey Manufacturers - it’s so great with their subsidiary! We qualified with New Jersey Re-Insurance under the Safe tier rating, so we got a really nice rate. Obviously, the more you have on your driving record, the worse rates you will get.
But, I’m glad I made the call. I’m willing to do my own paperwork if it will save me serious cash. And, it did. Plus, you don’t have to go anywhere and make an appointment to get car insurance. They send you the forms in the mail and you do it all from home (except the photocopying). Since they are extremely helpful over the phone, this takes the sting out of having to make the decisions on your own.
If you are unwilling to complete your own forms, this won’t work for you. I almost didn’t do it because I did find the forms daunting. Again, you can just call for help.
I found NJM after an especially bad experience with the other "stately" insurance carrier. I found "stately’s" representatives to be condescending and rude. We moved to another state and they wanted to double charge us the first month as they do with all "new" clients. We’d been with them for over 5 years, but our timely payments over that span of time apparently didn’t mean squat. If you move, you are new to that state and considered a new client. What a dumb company policy. I could’ve handled the policy, but the representatives were ALSO rude when explaining it to me.
The bad thing about NJM is if we move from this state, we can’t use them -they aren’t nation wide. I guess this means we won’t run into that same dumb company policy with them!
