They were cheaper and a lot more convenient. Another thing I liked was that they were available 24/7. My old car insurance carrier was pretty small and only available during daytime hours. Being a mom, I can’t always make phone calls during the day. So it is so nice being able to call at late hours.

I was happy with the service but not so thrilled about what I was paying a year. Well after just recently graduating college and moving to Washington, D.C. I decided to try something new, so after hearing and seeing all the hype on TV about this “wonderful” company called GEICO I decided to give them a try.

They are inexpensive compared to other insurance companies but keep in mind that they will never be there for you in time of need. They want your money, but when you get into a car accident, they hesitate to assist you in any way.
I recently got into a bad car accident recently. I was hit from the back and the side on the 91 freeway. Luckily, nobody was injured from the accident.

Written on 16 November 2008 by adminI have had Allstate for many years, and find that their rates are decent. If I were to try and switch, I would end up paying more. Unfortunatly I live in a state that requires auto insurance (Washington). This state also requires you to have Uninsured Motorist coverage (I guess a lot of people violate this requirement still).
Their claim service sucks though. About 10 years ago, I was hit broadside by a cop. I got the ticket, but took it to court after 2 witnesses came forward and gave me a statement saying the cop was speeding and was at fault. The court threw out the ticket, but I was still given 80% blame of the accident (so much for them standing up for me).

The reason for this is their policy to give the rates of up the 3 other companies (well it used to be 5 other companies). When I called them and explained my situation, asking for a quote, they let me know that they were not the least expensive insurance agent I could go for.
That to me is pretty incredable. I thought for sure that they would find some way to be the lowest, and I was suprised that they were not. But I was also very pleased that they were open and honest and let me know that I could do better somewhere else.

As an insurance adjustor, I don’t feel it would be fair for me to comment on which insurance company is good and which isn’t, even though I know I can remain objective and not toss in my subjective remarks. By the way, I don’t work for GEICO.
Saying that, I have to dispell a falsehood that came across a recent epinion regarding GEICO insurance. This came from dkhatt’s epinion of 11/9/1999.

Written on 15 November 2008 by adminMy husband has always used the Amica Insurance company based out of Lincoln Rhode Island for his homeowners policy. He had one claim several years ago and they handled it extremely quickly and without hassle. We have since added the automobile policy. We didn’t initially because we thought it would be much more expensive than our current plan with Nationwide. I did call to see what the difference would be and to my surprise it was actually 300.00 less than the Nationwide policy I had at that time. We switched over when the Nationwide policy ended and have been with them ever since. The best part is that we also receive a dividend check each year saving more than I had ever anticipated. The customer service is excellent. Everyone is knowledgeable and pleasant. I highly recommend Amica for ALL your insurance needs. This is definitely the best and in my own opinion… the ONLY insurance company.

I switched from Liberty Mutual to Allstate. My premium from Liberty was $1200 per year. My premium with Allstate is $600 per year. I would say that is that is a substantual saving.
The way I found a cheaper insurance company is through Progressive. Progressive gives you three different qoutes from ohter companies because they believe there premiums are the cheapest. In my case it wasn’t, so they told me that Allstate would be cheaper and I decided to give them a call and boy were they.

Written on 14 November 2008 by adminThis is the most ridiculous company I’ve dealt with. This is also the only company that tries to pull “fast ones” on you. I’ve heard the rumor that claims agents get commission based on the amount of claims denied/not against them. If this is not true, then I really don’t understand why they treat customers this way.
