The Direct approach - GEICO Direct

19 August 2008

When my previous insurance carrier (we won’t mention any names here) raised my rates for the fourth time in five years, despite my semi-pristine driving record - the last time I got a ticket, Jimmy Carter was President - I got on the phone to GEICO, and they wrote me up a policy for 25 percent less. Seven years and two cars later, I’m still with them, and the premium actually dropped substantially in year five. I’ve had no dealings with the claims department, since I try not to hit things or to have things hit me - which is the only reason why I’m not giving out that fifth star, since I can’t fairly rate how they handle claims - but every time I’ve called into customer service, they’ve been genuinely helpful, and they’ve filled my various requests exactly as specified.

Got My Moneys’ Worth and More - GEICO Direct

19 August 2008

I always thought that the advertising claims of Geico Direct Auto Insurance were somewhat padded in their favor, so I stayed away from them. Frankly, it all seemed just too good to be true. I occasionally phoned them to get a quote, but never "took the plunge", so to speak, because I just assumed that these too-good-to-be-true rates would most likely result in poor coverage in the event of an accident.

Low Price, but Questionable Billing Practices - AIG - American International Group - Auto

17 August 2008

In the beginning, AIG was a lifesaver. After thorough review of competitor pricing, along with advantages, and disadvantages, I went with AIG to get the most bang for my buck. The fact that I was able to set up automatic debit from my checking account was a big plus, and their low quote was an excellent value. I live in Las Vegas, NV which is known for high auto insurance, terrible driving conditions, accidents, and personal injury attorneys on every corner. I have never been involved in an accident that I was at fault for in my life, but I was very surprised when I received a renewal letter stating that my policy would go up in price. There was no reason given for this.

Your in SLIPPERY hands! - Allstate - Auto

16 August 2008

I have nothing good to say about Allstate but, I do have alot to say. I have been a safe driver with no tickets or accidents since I have been driving. I started out with Allstate as my auto insurance carrier and have had them for quite awhile now. I am so unhappy and &*&#^&^ upset with them I can’t think straight. I can not begin to express the anger I feel towards Allstate.

State Farm vs AARP-Hartford - State Farm Group - Auto

16 August 2008

I hate to write the check for insurance premiums. South Carolina is one of the highest costing states and then I live in one of the highest costing counties. Thus I began looking for less expensive coverage. State Farm gives a premium discount based on the years of coverage with them. I was able to get comparable coverage at roughly the same price with AARP Hartford. Had I been a new subscriber to State Farm the AARP rate would have been less and I would have clearly jumped over. I have never had an accident so I can not comment on their claims service. However I can say I am 100% satisfied with their customer service. My representative has been very helpful in eliminating coverage that really is not necessary and probably duplicated under another area. But more importantly, she really helped when making a new car purchase. I think we both got an education on the insurance rates of different vehicles. In order to simplify my process, she finally took the "master book" and looked for the lowest rated vehicles to help me find a car AND insurance rate I liked. This kind of service you can not get with AARP talking to a stranger on the phone halfway across the US. It also makes me wonder how easy it would be handling a claim. AARP rates are great and I would have probably gone with them if there had been significantly differences in savings in my situation but I would have not had the personal service I needed and expect to get from my insurance carrier.

Signed your soul to the Devil! - CIGNA

14 August 2008

Cigna = stress times infinity.

Unfortunately most people do not have a choice in which healthcare insurance they have. You usually are stuck with what your company has to offer. This is my second bout with Cigna Insurance and it is not getting any better. The policy we currently have is a PPO which includes a $50.00 copay for ER visits, $10.00 copay for doctor visits and either $7.00 or $15.00 for prescription drugs. I will state in their defense that their benefits are good when/if they are ever paid. Getting a claim paid however, is a long and exhausting process.

They did help us, no questions asked - Progressive Group - Auto

12 August 2008

When I was in an accident (my fault) two years ago - Progressive was the least stressful part of everything. After we paid our $500 deductible, they paid for the $4500 worth of damages. They offered us a check (most insurance companies do) to take in leui of repairing the vehicle - but we didn’t take them up on it. If we did this we could never make another claim related to this accident again.

My car was fixed up, good as new within a week.

Funny name-GREAT company-Wawanesa Insurance - Wawanesa - Auto

8 August 2008

What brought me to Wawanesa:

So, you are no doubt curious how I ever heard about Wawanesa Insurance. I’ll share with you. I was frustrated with high rates at one company (AAA) even though my driving record was very good. That caused me to change to another with much more reasonable rates, but the customer service was uncaring (Mercury).

Dont believe the ads… - GEICO Direct

5 August 2008

After being with my current auto insurance carrier for over 10 years i decided to do some competitive shopping, Geico was my first or second call the first call was close to my yearly price, then since ive seen many many Geico commercials on tv i thought well they must be competitive.

After all they have several funny, catchy ads which i enjoyed, So i called was asked about 10 minutes of questions, not just the coverage amounts but personal questions regarding, career, title, job responsibilities, then the same for my spouse, which i thought was quite odd. But the gentleman that was helping me told me it was to give me a more accurate quote. OK. Great! He then puts me on hold, comes back shortly and gives me a quote approximately 500.00 more per year than my and other quotes.
