Best Rate, but be very careful! - Progressive Group - Auto

21 August 2008

As a higher risk driver (22 year old single male, no tickets or accidents), I got quotes from many insurance companies. Progressive was definately the least expensive. The 24 hour customer service was definately a plus in deciding to go with progressive. I like knowing that I can talk to someone regarding my policy whenever I want instead of having to wait to go to an agent between regular business hours.

The Direct approach - GEICO Direct

19 August 2008

When my previous insurance carrier (we won’t mention any names here) raised my rates for the fourth time in five years, despite my semi-pristine driving record - the last time I got a ticket, Jimmy Carter was President - I got on the phone to GEICO, and they wrote me up a policy for 25 percent less. Seven years and two cars later, I’m still with them, and the premium actually dropped substantially in year five. I’ve had no dealings with the claims department, since I try not to hit things or to have things hit me - which is the only reason why I’m not giving out that fifth star, since I can’t fairly rate how they handle claims - but every time I’ve called into customer service, they’ve been genuinely helpful, and they’ve filled my various requests exactly as specified.

The best insurance there is. - USAA Group - Auto

16 August 2008

I have had my auto insurance through USAA ever since I got my license some twelve years ago now. Not only do they have the best prices I’ve ever seen (and I have compared), but their service is outstanding. I have been in a few accidents in my life. When I called USAA to report them, the person on the line was always nice, friendly, and sympathetic. Once someone was assigned to my case, the service didn’t change. The person was consistently helpful and understanding.

AAA - Auto Club of Southern California - AAA - Auto

15 August 2008

I have been a insured of Automobile Club of Southern California since I began driving in 1979. Through that period of time, I have insured a total of six vehicles (1968 Chevrolet Chevelle, 1985 Ford Mustang GT, 1987 Kawasaki Ninja 600R, 1990 Jeep Cherokee LTD, 1993 Honda Civic Si and my current 1997 GMC Jimmy SLT 2-WD.

I remember my first vehicle’s (1968 Chevelle) insurance was $800 just for liability! Everyone told me, keep your nose out of trouble and your rates will go down.

Excellent Service - GEICO Direct

9 August 2008

I have been with the GEICO insurance company for the past 2 years and am still insurance holder of this company.

First of all I like their prompt response. Last year my wife had minor accident that was not involved any human casualty. When I called the company to report the accident, they sent the insurance adjuster the next day and I could can get my car fixed in a very short period of time. I like that prompt service.

I am doomed - 21st Century - Auto

8 August 2008

Before I joined 21st (then 20th), I had zero moving violations/accidents in 12 years. I dealt with numerous insurance institutes in 4 different states during that time: AIG, Farmers Group, AllState, StateFarm…All I did was writing checks.

In 1998, I was talked into 20th by a friend, who said I should save by switching to a policy for good drivers. After that all my luck turned around.

Risky Business - Allstate - Auto

18 July 2008

My wife and I were Allstate customers for 18-19 virtually accident-free years and liked their service. Their best work: some years ago I was driving my wife’s car through an intersection and was t-boned by a hillbilly pickup driver who ran his red light and whose explanation curbside was, "Man, I’m late for work!" We were to go on an extended driving vacation with this vehicle in a week and I figured now there was no way that would happen. Allstate fronted us the not inconsiderable repair money, got us fixed within a week, and dealt with the other party’s cantankerous insurance company transparently to us.

HIGH RISK NICHE MARKET - Progressive Group - Auto

13 July 2008

I used Progressive for a few years when I was a high-risk driver. I was male, under 25 and I had 3 speeding tickets, a failure to yield the right of way ticket and 1 accident. Actually I signed up with Progressive when my previous insurance company declined to insure me further. At the time, I was happy to have coverage. After about 18 months I called around to see if I could get cheaper rates. However, I still had 3 tickets on my record, and Progressive was the cheapest bid going. When I turned 25 the last of my speeding tickets had aged off my record. I again called around - this time all 3 companies I called underbid Progressive. So in short, this insurance company is great if you are a high-risk driver, but probably is not the most competitive bid if you are a ‘more insurable’ driver

Misleading and predatory–run away from this company! - 21st Century - Auto

11 July 2008

I have had 21st Century for 18 months. During that time, I have filed no claims and my driving record is clean. Everything went along uneventfully until I bought a new car. Of course, I expected my insurance to increase, so I actually did some comparison shopping. I received quotes from Travelers and AIG for $500 for six months. 21st quoted me almost $900 for six months! I thought there had to be a mistake, so I called them. A nice woman told me that oh, somehow they had me rated as not having previous insurance–it really should be $500 some dollars. She was very nice, and said she would make sure this all got straightened out–and would call me in a few days. She advised me that I had been paying too much all along, and was likely due a refund. Boy, was I happy with her after that! I thanked her many times for her help and made my monthly payment, thinking the matter was settled.

Buyer beware. - AIG - American International Group - Auto

5 July 2008

AIG and MBNA offered me low cost auto insurance and quoted a slightly, but worthwhile, level below my current Progressive amount. But when the bill came, the quoted monthly was $20 higher and I kept getting “Change of Premium” statements weekly that kept raising the premium.

In addition, the initial paperwork is confusing and complicated to complete.

I had cancelled my previous insurance with Progressive and this just created a big hassle. However, AIG’s refund of my prorated amount was speedy. I was pleased with the telephone service from the CSR.
