When I was in an accident (my fault) two years ago - Progressive was the least stressful part of everything. After we paid our $500 deductible, they paid for the $4500 worth of damages. They offered us a check (most insurance companies do) to take in leui of repairing the vehicle - but we didn’t take them up on it. If we did this we could never make another claim related to this accident again.
My car was fixed up, good as new within a week.
Well, three months later - we noticed that one of my tires on my Subaru Outback Legacy was completely bald. We took it to Les Schwab and they told us that it was do to the axle being off balance from the accident - this was missed by the body shop in the initial repair. It would have to be fixed and all of the tires would have to be replaced.
On a hunch, we took it to the place that did the repairs and they confirmed this. With our kind of car, you have to replace all the tires at once (not just one).
Luckily, because we did not take the settlement, Progressive paid the $1500 that it cost to repair the axle and replaced all of the tires since the uneven wear and tear was due to the accident AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO US!
Both times we had to make a claim - it was quick and painless which made us feel better that we were paying up to $215 a month for the insurance. It didn’t seem like a waste of money anymore after that!
We recently switched from Progressive to Safeco because now that we are married - we can be choosier about who our insurance carrier is. It was hard to make the switch because Progressive was so great during our accident. But, money reins over all and we went with what was deemed cheaper.
