How does GEICO rip you off??? Let me count the ways….. If this opinion already seems negative, it is for a very good reason. Like a loss of over $400 and invalid coverage for a year. Thank God I didn’t have any insurance issues during that period.
I had purchased European insurance for my car before I actually went to Germany. GEICO had me pay upfront and gave me a policy that was to be good for a year.
When I got to Germany and attempted to register my car, I was told that the insurance was no good. I contacted a GEICO service rep in Frankfurt and was told that an adjusted statement with the appropriate coverage would be in the mail. This took several weeks and also started with $100 monthly payments.
When that information arrived, I registered my car with the warning that I would have to fix another problem with my coverage. With this problem reportedly fixed, I spent the next year paying premiums. At the end of the year, I had decided to go with a different insurance agency. I had to register my car again with the new agency and was informed by the registrar and the new insurance agency that GEICO had not had me legally covered and that with the policy that I had supposedly fixed, the initial $400 was not used for this policy.
I started to make contacts with GEICO again, but the fact that the reps primarily spoke German and then deploying to Bosnia, I was never able to get my money refunded. Should I still pursue it??? Yeah probably. I doubt that I still have the documents as I don’t own that car anymore, so I will get a small amount of satisfaction if someone does not start an account with GEICO by reading this.
