USAA Insurance - will not renew motorcycle coverage

San Antonio, TX 78265 USAA #1624290 Mr. Jennings: I am writing to express my extreme displeasure and astonishment that USAA will not renew my motorcycle coverage. It is simply not logical to me that I have been riding motorcycles since I was 12, started street riding at 18, and I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT ON A MOTORCYCLE.

You referred to my motorcycle claim in Aurora, CO - that happened because the sun heated up the pavement on which the bike was parked, and it fell over, damaging the fairing and muffler. The engine was running, and, of course, I was far away. By the way, I almost left USAA at that time because you classified the incident as a collision, charging my deductible, when it was really only weather-caused damage (like hail or high winds causing a tree to fall on a vehicle). Now let’s review the two auto accidents you cite: 1) 05/25/02 - this happened at a car wash. I was next in line for the wash, and the attendants were peevishly motioning to me to get out of the car. In my haste, I guess Ieft the car in reverse. It backed up no more than five feet, going no more than ~1 mph and hit the car behind. A human error, but not one associated with normal moving situations. I find it very hard to understand why this should be counted so largely against me. 2) 11/20/03 - in this case, I was on my way to work at about 6:00 AM. I was in the process of entering an onramp for the toll road I use. A pickup truck came from the far right lane, swooping across the right lane then directly swerving onto the on-ramp in front of me. The pavement was wet from rain the night before, and wet leaves were on it.

I swerved to avoid collision with the truck, but hit the guard rail. If I had not, the consequences would probably have much greater, with injuries (one of vehicles could have rolled over). This was recorded as an accident at which I was at no fault by the Virginia State Police and Traffic Court. So again, I find it very difficult to believe why I am being penalized for it. (By the way, apparently there was some confusion my account of the accident. I believe that was because I was prescribed some pretty strong medicine after the accident to help my head injury and to calm my nerves.) Since I have been with USAA for over 28 years, faithfully paying my premiums, always staying with you when changing or adding cars, adding my son for coverage when he became of age, I want to express my strongest possible dissatisfaction with your action - I cannot believe you would treat a good customer this way. I intend to sever our relationship with USAA and correspond with the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Reports, any insurance reference organization I can find, and publicize this treatment as widely as I can. You leave me no recourse. Mr. Jennings, please provide a copy of this to your management; I am sending a copy to Customer Service. S, Robert G
