My husband and I have used Allstate Insurance Company for automobile insurance for ……well at least 15 years. Fortunately for us most of that time was without mishap. Then, enter the male, teenage driver!
Within weeks of our son getting his license, we got that dreaded phone call from the Police Department….."Mrs. Harris, your son is fine, but has been involved in a Motor Vehicle Accident." After determining that our son was fine, even if the car wasn’t, our next worry was what would happen to our rates. At first it looked rather gloomy, as this was one of those "he said, she said" deals. Even our own adjuster was making comments like, "Well, he is a new and inexperienced driver." However, Allstate did a very thorough investigation and decided that our son’s story made more sense. They fought hard for us and were able to limit our exposure to less than 50% of the fault. We were refunded half the deductible we had paid on the collision coverage. Best of all, there was no increase in our premium!
Well, teenage boys often believe they are invincible. About a year later, on a snowy day, my son decided he HAD to get to the Mall to get his beloved Mom a Birthday gift. That’s right, another phone call……"Mrs. Harris, this is Lisa’s Dad, I’m at the hospital, the kids were in an auto accident." Again nobody was seriously injured, thank goodness. The car was towed to an authorized repair station and Allstate gave the authorization for repairs. After 32 days in the shop, I got rather annoyed. I called the Claims Agent to vent. I told him how frustrating it was, and that we had just been informed of a death in our family. He said he would make a few calls and get back to me.
Within 10 minutes, I received a return call. Our Claim Representative didn’t like the answers he got at the Repair Shop. He informed us that he understood our frustration. He expressed his sympathies for our loss and informed us that even though we didn’t have "Rental Coverage" that he was at that very moment making arrangements for us to pick up a rental car to use until our vehicle was repaired. He hoped that this gesture would somehow ease some of the burden we were facing in the coming days.
This small gesture on the part of our Insurance Company meant a lot to us. It was a particularly tough time for us, and to have our Insurance Company truly show that they cared about us, goes a long way.
Over the past several years, our mailbox has been flooded by offers for free quotes, guarantees for savings, and all kinds of solicitations from Auto Insurance Carriers. I must admit that at one point I looked into trying to save a few dollars and called a few of these companies. Nobody could provide us with better rates than we were getting with Allstate. As a matter of fact, most of the rates were much higher.
On the few occasions when we have needed them, Allstate has come through for us. They provided a quick, caring and courteous claims process. All of my phone calls have been returned promptly. Throughout the entire claims process, we were kept informed via written status reports and telephone calls. Our Agent is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He has made suggestions to us on how to lower our premiums (having our teens take Defensive Driving Courses or Driver’s Education). Our family truly feels that we are "In Good Hands with Allstate."
