We had a little accident on the carpet in our home and a iron was dropped by my sister when she was visiting and it burned the carpet. I contacted USAA and they told me I was covered for the damage less my deductable. I was instructed to cut out a section and send it to a lab in florida called ITEL. ITEL determined that my carpet was worth $14/ sqr yard at today’s prices. USAA called and said they were cutting a check for the carpet at $14/ sqr yard. When my wife and I went to look for replacement carpet that was simular to ours we could not find the carpet at $14 / sqr yard. The cheapest we could find was $19 / sqr yard and that was a step down according to the carpet retailor. I called USAA and they informed me that the lab says it can be purchased for that amount and I would have to go out and find it. We went to 8 stores and no store had the carpet at that price. We are just stuck according to USAA and the lab determines the price not what you can purchase the carpet for. This totally violates the contract between us in my opinion and I am going to file a complaint with the insurance comission of my state.
