When I originally signed on with Geico I thought they were great because their rates were so much lower than other insurance companies. Everything was smooth sailing until I had an accident and had to deal with their claims department. That was when the nightmare began.
After the accident, I called Geico, and my claim was assigned to a representative who I was told would get back to me soon. After a couple of days I hadn’t heard anything, so I called him and left a voice mail. i stressed how it was urgent I get my car back soon because I was paying for a rental out of my pocket. For several days there was no still no response, so I called again only to get a message saying his voice mail box was full. I tried again a few days later and was able to catch him, and he said he would get there some time next week. That week came and went with no phone calls, and I called the 1-800 number and explained what was going on and found out who the manager was.
I then called the manager and left a message with my story. Finally after about two and a half weeks, my claim rep went to inspect my car. The only reason I knew that was because I had also been calling the shop where my car was located. A week after the inspection, the body shop called me and told me the estimate had been turned in. I still had only talked to my claim rep once, and that was only after numerous phone calls. So, a month after my accident, Geico had finally given the body shop permission to work on the car. Unfortunately, the estimate had been wrong because my claim rep HAD FORGOTTEN TO OPEN THE HOOD and thus hadn’t counted all the damage to the engine inside.
Finally, after a month and a half, my car was repaired and returned to me. In the meantime, I had spent several hundred dollars on a rental, mostly due to Geico’s painfully slow response time. I had only talked to my claim rep once, even though I had left dozens of messages for him. I had also talked to his manager a few times, whose only response had been that they were really busy. When I went to get my car I talked to the guy at the body shop and he said that was pretty normal for Geico. He said most insurance agents were out looking at cars within a week, but Geico often took several weeks before they even came by. He hated it because he had numerous cars waiting to be repaired and the only hold up was that Geico hadn’t come to inspect them.
To sum it all up, my customer experience with Geico was the worst ever, in any industry. I’ll never do business with them again and laugh whenever I see their ads that talk about 24 hour customer service and most claims handled in 48 hours. Don’t believe it. It’s complete bs.
